Donated Bench

A bench was donated in honor of Cheryl Garrett Wenner a few weeks back.  A group of FCC members got together to donate the bench.  It was placed in the landscape bed near the tennis courts where Cheryl spent her time.  The generous members also donated the plants that we added around the bench.

Spectators can now enjoy a tennis match while enjoying the flowers around them.

Thank You to all the members that donated and made this place a more picturesque area in honor of a loved one.

National Farm and Garden Award

On Tuesday, FCC was presented the Latham Award from the Ohio Division of the Women's National Farm and Garden Association.  This award is given annually to an organization that makes contributions to conservation, beautification and civic improvements.  Anne Hermiller nominated Findlay Country Club for our efforts of developing and maintaining a well-designed facility.  She highlighted our history, mission statement, facilities, dedication, trees and flora, seasonal decorations, and opportunities we offer for members to enjoy the outdoors.  In fact, this blog was used and made a significant impact in the award.

Anne Hermiller presented me with the Award and a $100 check to be used for further beautification of the grounds.  While this was completely unexpected, it was very appreciated.  FCC would like to thank Anne for her nomination and her efforts.  The Grounds Staff and everyone at FCC appreciates the recognition.  Thanks again Anne!

Member participation

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we held the Marathon - United Way outing.  We had 500 golfers come through in a short time frame.  In anticipation of this, last week, Dick Hall asked if we could set up a Member Repair Night on Wednesday evening.  We set it up, and last night a few members came to help the grounds staff fix ball marks and fill divots.

I want to thank Tom Drake, Richard Lis and Rod Fannin for also helping us out.  We were able to fix all the ball marks and fill all the divots in 2 hours.  Thanks to all those that also came but were unable to make it outside due to the rain.  I also heard from a number of you that would have liked to help but had prior commitments. We really appreciate all the help.

What's great is that this idea came from the membership, it's nice to see pride from the members in the golf course they call home - enough so that they want to get out and help any way they can.

Range tee divots

Below is a link that explains the proper way to use a range tee.  There are three different ways to take divots out of the range tee, with one technique being the preferred option.  Please take a look at the video and do your best to leave some range tee space for the next person.

Preferred Divot Pattern

This video came from Superintendent Dan Meersman at Philadelphia Cricket Club.

Below is a picture taken from our range tee this past year.  You can imagine the time it takes for the grass to fill in this area.

We don't have a massive range tee that some golf course can have.  We also have a large numbers of golfers that frequent the range.  This puts a lot of stress on the tee for a quick recovery before the next wave of divots.  Therefore, I have two requests 1. Use a divot pattern as outlined in the video and 2. Police your fellow members.  If you notice someone making a quarry in the range tee, politely explain the Superintendent prefers a different divot pattern.  I'll do my best to get the grass to fill in and I'm sure you will as well.

Good attitude

Fed, I'm glad you stopped shivering long enough for me to take the photo.  I hope you can continue to find the good out of everything (even when it rains).
