Patio update

The patio project is coming along nice.  The top patio is almost finished.  We are still on track to have the patio finished by the first week of June.

A few people have asked if this patio will be handicap accessible.  The top patio will be accessible to those with wheelchairs, the stairways will have handrails to access the bottom patio.  Our hope is that everyone will have an opportunity to enjoy this wonderful addition to our Club.

Latest

The flood waters have receded and the debris has been cleaned up.  We continued to get intermittent rain that is leaving the course soggy.  We have not had a good chance to dry down.  This morning we got .5" of rain.  Next week the forecast seems to be a little drier.

Besides cleaning up the debris and mowing when we get the opportunity, the crew has been working on edging all the landscape beds and laying down mulch.  The goal of this is to get the mulch down by the end of the month.  In the near future we will begin working on filling the stump holes around the course from this winter.  These will eventually be seeded.

The patio project was put on hold this week due to the rain.  The contractors will resume work next week.  They made good progress before the delay, some of the pavers have been laid already.  I'm looking forward to the finished product.

This morning was the start of the clean up efforts from the flood.  We will continue the clean up tomorrow morning and should have everything picked up by Tuesday.  I don't anticipate any loss of grass from the flood.

Tomorrow the course will be open to walkers only on holes: 10,11,12,13,14,15,4,5,6,7.

Flood waters

The golf course received 1" of rain overnight to bring the total to 3.5" in the last 40 hours.  The flooding is now covering 6 different holes along the river.  Over the last 2 hours, the waters have not risen any higher, I think we have seen the worst of it.

The course and the range will be closed today, but will open tomorrow for walkers.  Walkers will be allowed on the course tomorrow starting at 8:30. We will have an alternate route because of the flooding. The walking route tomorrow will be: 10,11,12,13,14,15,4,5,6,7.  No carts will be allowed.

Flooding

We have minor flooding on the course that will change into major flooding over night.  We anticipate the water levels rising another 3 feet from where they are now.  In anticipation of the flooding, we removed the irrigation pumps today to raise them up above where the water will crest.

The water rose 4" in the 1/2 hour we were removing the pumps.

Rain

Over the last 16 hours, the golf course has received 2.5" of rain.  I am expecting some minor flooding on the holes along the river over the next few days.  There will be no carts today and Friday.

Fairway aerification

Yesterday we were able to aerify all the the fairways.  We were supposed to aerify this coming Monday, but due to the weather forecast, we pushed it up a few days.  All the fairways were finished.  Today we will continue our cleanup efforts to remove as much debris as we can before the rain hits.

Pulling cores.

Pulverizing the cores.

Dragging the cores into the fairway.

Verticutting the fairway.  This breaks down the cores into even smaller pieces to be blown off.

Blowing the debris off the fairway.

Vacuuming up the debris along side the fairway.

Thank you for the flexibility in allowing this process to get done when the weather allows it.  We had the perfect weather scenario to get this done quickly and with minimal mess.  With this process complete, we will not have to aerify the fairways until next year.  Enjoy the rest of the season.

Aerification change

We will be aerifying fairways tomorrow (Friday) instead of the planned Monday, April 8 due to the rain that is forecast for the weekend and beyond.

Today was the start of the mowing season, we mowed tees, approaches and fairways today.

Patio construction

Construction of our new outdoor dining patio has started.  Yesterday was demolition day as the old grill off the back of the clubhouse was tore out along with some concrete.

The construction of the new patio will take up to 2 months.  Depending on weather delays, we hope to open the new patio by the 1st week of June.

This is going to be a great venue to spend some time after a round of golf or take the family out for a nice dinner and enjoy the scenery.  If you are thinking about hosting a party this year, consider using the patio as your destination.  There will also be a large fireplace for those late night excursions on the patio to go along with the lighting package that will be installed.

Greens aerification and more

We are a week behind schedule, but today we were able to get the greens aerified.  This will be a 2 day process that will continue into tomorrow.

After taking the pins out and marking all the irrigation heads, we put a layer of sand down.

We then poked 3/4" holes into the greens about 4" deep.  Once the sand dried, we dragged the sand into the holes.  Today we put down about half of the sand that is needed.  We will continue adding sand tomorrow to fill all the holes.  The greens are not growing yet and I don't expect them to start growing until this weekend.  Expect lots of sand on the greens for a few weeks.

We also started putting out the rope and stake to alter cart traffic.  Carts will be allowed starting tomorrow.

Today, a crew of guys worked on our bunkers.  All the bunkers were edged and we are in the process of pulling all the weeds and cleaning out the debris.  Tomorrow we will start fixing the washouts and raking them for the first time.
